USIA - KENNEDY CENTER  JAZZ AMBASSADORS  TOUR OVERSEAS

Lenora Zenzalai Helm
(Washington, D.C.)

Brandon W. McCune
(Washington, D.C.)

LILONGWE, MALAWI, WAS TRULY TREATED TO A FEAST OF IMPROVISATION AND VIGOROUS YOUNG TALENT WITH THE HELM/MCCUNE DUO. HELM HAS A MAGNIFICENT VOICE AND MCCUNE, AT ONLY 22 YEARS OF AGE, HAS A VIRTUOSITY ON THE PIANO TOTALLY UNEXPECTED IN SUCH A YOUNG PERSON. A CONCERT IN LILONGWE WAS HELD FOLLOWING A SHORT RECEPTION ON THE SATURDAY AFTER THEIR ARRIVAL, ATTENDED BY VARIOUS DIPLOMATS AND A WIDE CROSS SECTION OF THE COMMUNITY. FOUR OTHER CONCERTS WERE HELD IN LILONGWE, MZUZU, ZOMBA, AND BLANTYRE, AS WELL AS WORKSHOPS IN ZOMBA AND BLANTYRE.

COMMENTS SUCH AS "GREAT", "FANTASTIC", "WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT SUCH YOUNG ARTISTS COULD PERFORM LIKE THAT", "WISH WE HAD MORE TIME WITH YOU", "WONDERFUL TO HEAR SUCH GREAT MUSICIANS", "I CAN REALLY APPRECIATE JAZZ NOW", "ALTHOUGH I AM NOT A JAZZ LOVER, I REALLY ENJOYED THE CONCERT" RESOUNDED CLEARLY THROUGHOUT THE ONE WEEK TOUR.

BOTH HELM AND MCCUNE ARE EXCEEDINGLY TALENTED AND WERE GREATLY APPRECIATED BY ALL AUDIENCES.
