  • USIA is a foreign affairs agency whose purpose is to inform foreign citizens about America and its foreign policy. We regret that we are unable, therefore, to respond to general-information questions.

  • General questions about Federal Government programs should be directed to the Federal Information Center, 1-(800) 688-9889

  • For information on J-1 exchange and status of requests for waivers of J-1 exchange requirements, contact:

  • USIA does not handle routine visa matters. Please direct visa questions to the U.S. Department of State, visa services or to the American Embassy or Consulate in your country.

  • International students seeking information on financial aid for study in the U.S. and general information on U.S. colleges and universities:
    Please contact the nearest U.S. Educational Advising center from among the over 400 USIA-affiliated centers worldwide. You may also contact the U.S. Information Service (USIS) office through the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

    Unfortunately, we cannot answer most requests for foreign financial aid sent to this website. Please check directly with your overseas USIS office, Educational Advising Center, or with the financial aid office of the U.S. educational institution you are i nterested in.

    International students already in the United States should contact their campus financial aid office and foreign student advisor.

  • Foreign policy inquiries from U.S. citizens:
    By law, USIA may not address foreign policy issues domestically but only with foreign audiences through our overseas posts. Americans can receive information on specific foreign policy issues by contacting:
