European Union has observer status at the Summit and is represented
by the President of the Commission as well as the leader of
the country that holds the presidency of the European Union.
President of the European Commission is His Excellency Romano
Prodi. President Prodi began his term as President of the
European Commission in September of 1999.
During the Sea Island Summit, Ireland will hold the Presidency
of the Council of the European Union. The Prime Minister of
Ireland, His Excellency Bertie Ahern, T.D., will be attending
the Sea Island Summit in his capacity as President of the
Council of the European Union. The Presidency of the Council
of the European Union rotates between member nations of the
EU. Ireland took over the Presidency in January of 2004.
