International Press Credentials

WASHINGTON, DC – Today the Sea Island Summit Planning Organization announced details regarding media credentialing for the Sea Island Summit 2004. The credentialing application process will begin December 17, 2003 and will conclude March 15, 2004. In order to obtain a media credential to cover the Sea Island Summit, there will be a two-step credentialing procedure that all media must follow and complete. The G8 Summit will be held June 8, 9, and 10 in Sea Island, Georgia.

A Sea Island Summit media credential will allow members of the media access to the International Media Center, transportation during the Summit, and access to all OPEN media Summit events.

The two-step media credentialing process is as follows: Each member of the media wishing to attend the Sea Island Summit must submit a letter from the editor of their news organization on company letterhead. Please fax all letters to the Sea Island Summit using country code at +1 (202) 647-3299 with the following information about the applicant: full legal name, organization, title/position, email address, and phone number and fax number with country code.

Next, after the Sea Island Summit Communications Office has received, reviewed and approved the initial media credential request on company letterhead, the Summit Planning Organization will send information and instructions regarding the second step of the media credentialing process to the email address provided by the applicant. The following information must be provided by each applicant: full legal name, name to appear on credential, date of birth, gender, city and country of birth, nationality, social security number and/or passport number, home address, business address, news organization, title/position in the news organization, and a passport-style digital image.

The information given below is to further assist media applicants to develop arrangements to cover the Sea Island Summit:

Satellite Truck Parking:
Parking permits are required for all satellite and microwave trucks for OPEN media events and the International Media Center. Please indicate the number of satellite, microwave, or remote trucks you plan to utilize throughout the Summit on the letter from the Editor of your respective news organization.

Transportation to the Sea Island Summit:
Savannah International Airport is located approximately thirty minutes from downtown Savannah. Limited taxi service is available in Savannah. Rental cars are strongly discouraged due to limited parking facilities, traffic congestion, and garage fees.

Accommodations:
Accommodations will be assigned to all media attending the Summit after all credentialing information has been submitted.

Summit Press Credentials:
Media will be able to pick-up their Summit media credentials upon arrival in Savannah. The credential pick-up location and hours of operation will be sent in advance to members of the media that have been cleared to receive a credential.
