A: THE U.S. COAST GUARD AND IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION SERVICE ARE IN PURSUIT OF A VESSEL THAT IS SUSPECTED OF CARRYING ILLEGAL CHINESE ALIENS. THE 168 FOOT VESSEL, JIN YINN NO. 1, WAS SPOTTED SATURDAY, APRIL 9, BY A COAST GUARD C-130 AIRCRAFT ON ROUTINE PATROL. TWO COAST GUARD CUTTERS, CUTTER TYBEE AND CUTTER ACTIVE, ARE ON THE SCENE WITH THE VESSEL APPROXIMATELY 400 MILES WEST SOUTHWEST OF SAN DIEGO. THE VESSEL CHANGED COURSE FROM DUE EAST TO WESTERLY UPON BEING INTERCEPTED BY THE COAST GUARD CUTTERS. SO FAR, THE VESSEL WILL NOT STOP AND HAS REFUSED TO ANSWER ANY COMMUNICATIONS.

FURTHER QUESTIONS SHOULD BE REFERRED TO THE COAST GUARD.(###)
