1. GREECE Q: Is it correct that there have been demonstrations in Greece against U.S. recognition of The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia?

A:--THERE WAS A DEMONSTRATION AND MARCH OPPOSING RECOGNITION OF THE FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA (FYROM) IN FRONT OF THE U.S. CONSULATE GENERAL IN THESSALONIKI TODAY. AN ESTIMATED 50,000 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED.

--A STATEMENT DENOUNCING U.S. RECOGNITION OF FYROM WAS READ BY THE LOCAL ORTHODOX BISHOP. SOME IN THE CROWD THREW ROCKS AND EGGS AT THE CONSULATE BUILDING.

--THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO U.S. PERSONNEL AND NO SERIOUS DAMAGE TO U.S. GOVERNMENT PROPERTY.
