1.  North Korea
Q:  What are the results of the meeting today in New York
between the U.S. and DPRK?

A:  WE ARE STUDYING THE DPRK RESPONSE.  WE PLAN TO CONSULT WITH
THE SOUTH KOREANS AND OUR ALLIES BEFORE REACTING TO THE NORTH'S
MOST RECENT RESPONSE.


2.  RUSSIA
Q.  During the Vice President's recent trip to Russia, what
progress was made on the issue of nuclear waste dumping at sea?

A.  THE ISSUE OF NUCLEAR WASTE DUMPING AT SEA WAS RAISED DURING
THE VICE PRESIDENT'S MEETINGS IN RUSSIA.

--WE URGED THE RUSSIANS TO ADHERE TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE
LONDON CONVENTION PROHIBITING DUMPING OF NUCLEAR WASTE AT SEA.

--WE AGREED TO CONTINUE DISCUSSIONS OF THIS ISSUE IN THE CONTEXT
OF OUR BROADER TALKS ON SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL
COOPERATION.(###)
