OIG REPORT ON WHITE HOUSE LIAISON OFFICE

Q:  Under what circumstances does the IG refer a case to the Department 
of Justice?

A:  WHEN THE IG HAS REASONABLE GROUNDS TO BELIEVE THAT THERE HAS BEEN A 
VIOLATION OF FEDERAL CRIMINAL LAW, HE MUST REPORT THAT MATTER TO THE 
ATTORNEY GENERAL.  THE IG MAKES SUCH A REPORT IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 
4(d) OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL ACT OF 1978, U.S.C. APPENDIX 3, AND 28 
U.S.C. 535(b).
