1.  ISRAEL
Q:  Is the U.S. joining in Israeli efforts to establish
diplomatic relations with other Arab states?

A:  THE UNITED STATES WELCOMES ANY AND ALL MOVES TOWARD
NORMALIZATION AND RECONCILIATION.  WE HAVE ALWAYS ADVOCATED AND WILL 
CONTINUE TO ENCOURAGE ACTIVELY NORMALIZATION OF RELATIONS BETWEEN ISRAEL 
AND ALL STATES, INCLUDING THE ARAB STATES OF THE REGION.

DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS IS ONE OF A WHOLE RANGE OF STEPS WHICH
SHOULD BE TAKEN, AND WHICH THE UNITED STATES HAS URGED THE ARAB STATES 
TO TAKE.  OTHER MEASURES NEEDED INCLUDE ENDING THE ECONOMIC BOYCOTT OF 
ISRAEL AND WORKING TO IMPROVE REGIONAL ECONOMIC COOPERATION.(###)
